Construction tipper lorries, speeding at 90–100 km/h on roads in connection with the construction of the capital city, Amaravati, are making life miserable for ordinary motorists. Due to this escalating “tipper racing,” major roads within the capital region are turning into death traps. With these vehicles frequently causing accidents by flouting regulations and speeding recklessly, local residents and two-wheeler riders are forced to travel in constant fear for their lives.

Regulations Confined to Paper!
Traffic is heavy during morning and evening hours on the wide Seed Access Roads built by the CRDA, as well as on the main roads of Thullur, Rayapudi, Mandadam, and Velagapudi. Regulations dictate that heavy vehicles must not exceed prescribed speed limits in residential areas or near the Secretariat. Furthermore, lorries transporting loads of soil, sand, or gravel are strictly required to be covered with tarpaulins.

Overloaded tippers overtake other vehicles—including two-wheelers—without regard for safety, causing panic and alarm among road users. Driver Negligence: Locals allege that some drivers drive recklessly and competitively, hoping to earn higher commissions by completing more trips.

Severe Distress for ‘Gen Z’ Youth and Employees:
Employees commuting to the Secretariat and the Assembly, as well as students and young people heading to educational institutions within the capital region, are terrified by these speeding lorries. “I don’t know whether to be happy that the roads in Amaravati are good or to live in fear of a tipper lorry crashing into me from behind,” lamented an IT employee.

Farmers and local residents of Amaravati are demanding immediate intervention from traffic police and Transport Department (RTA) officials to prevent recurring accidents:

Installation of Speed ​​Guns:
Speed ​​guns should be installed on major roads, and heavy fines must be imposed on tipper lorries that exceed speed limits.

Time Restrictions: Partial restrictions should be imposed on the movement of heavy vehicles during morning and evening peak hours.

Driver Counseling: Contracting agencies must raise awareness among their drivers regarding speed control and road safety. Vehicle Inspection: Old lorries that do not meet fitness standards should not be allowed on the capital’s roads.

డ్రైవర్ల నిర్లక్ష్యం: ఎక్కువ ట్రిప్పులు వేస్తే ఎక్కువ కమీషన్ వస్తుందనే ఆశతో కొందరు డ్రైవర్లు పోటీపడి వాహనాలను నడుపుతున్నట్లు స్థానికులు ఆరోపిస్తున్నారు.
