Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu to Release Godavari Waters to North Andhra via Polavaram Left Main Canal

The long-cherished dream of the people of North Andhra is set to become a reality. Preparations are complete for the release of Godavari waters to the North Andhra region through the Polavaram Left Main Canal. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu will officially release the water today (September 2, 2026) at 2:00 PM near P.L. Puram village, Payakaraopeta Mandal, Anakapalli district.
Project Highlights:
Water Security: Comprehensive water security will be ensured for irrigation, drinking water, and industrial needs across the North Andhra region.
Beneficiary Districts: The project will bring a new era of prosperity to the districts of East Godavari, Kakinada, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema, Anakapalli, and Visakhapatnam.
Benefits:
* Abundant irrigation water will be available for an ayacut (cultivable area) of approximately 4 lakh acres.
* Permanent drinking water supply will be provided to 9.23 lakh people.
* Water supply essential for regional industrial development will become available.
Project Cost:
The works were executed at a total cost of ₹4,192.34 crore, covering the construction of the Polavaram Left Main Canal, land acquisition, and Relief and Rehabilitation (R&R) programs. The government stated that the surging waters of the Godavari would usher in a new wave of joy in farmers’ households and that this release of water would stand as a historic milestone in the development of North Andhra.

* **నీటి భద్రత:** ఉత్తరాంధ్ర పరిధిలోని సాగునీరు, తాగునీరు మరియు పారిశ్రామిక అవసరాలకు సంపూర్ణ నీటి భద్రత చేకూరనుంది.
* **లబ్ధి చేకూరే జిల్లాలు:** తూర్పుగోదావరి, కాకినాడ, డాక్టర్ బి.ఆర్. అంబేద్కర్ కోనసీమ, అనకాపల్లి మరియు విశాఖపట్నం జిల్లాలకు ఈ ప్రాజెక్టు ద్వారా మహర్దశ పడుతుంది.
* **ప్రయోజనాలు:**
* సుమారు 4 లక్షల ఎకరాల ఆయకట్టుకు పుష్కలంగా సాగునీరు అందుతుంది.
* 9.23 లక్షల మంది ప్రజలకు శాశ్వత తాగునీటి సరఫరా లభిస్తుంది.
* ప్రాంతీయ పారిశ్రామిక అభివృద్ధికి అవసరమైన నీటి సరఫరా అందుబాటులోకి వస్తుంది.
* **ప్రాజెక్టు వ్యయం:** పోలవరం ఎడమ ప్రధాన కాలువ నిర్మాణం, భూసేకరణ మరియు సహాయ పునరావాస (R&R) కార్యక్రమాలతో కలిపి మొత్తం రూ. 4,192.34 కోట్ల వ్యయంతో ఈ పనులు చేపట్టడం జరిగింది.
గోదావరి పరవళ్లతో రైతాంగం ఇళ్లలో సరికొత్త ఆనందం వెల్లివిరియనుందని, ఉత్తరాంధ్ర అభివృద్ధికి ఈ నీటి విడుదల ఒక చారిత్రక మైలురాయిగా నిలవనుందని ప్రభుత్వం పేర్కొంది.
