New Party Launch the Day After Dasara: Announcement by Former YSRCP MP Venumbaka Vijayasai Reddy
Amaravati / Vijayawada:
Former YSRCP MP V. Vijayasai Reddy held a press conference in Vijayawada on August 8. Speaking on the occasion, he stated that the people of the state are fed up with the politics of the TDP, YSRCP and that Andhra Pradesh needs a strong alternative regional party. He ridiculed the current rulers as the “Red Book party” and mocked the opposition’s aggressive “Raffa Raffa” attitude. He announced that his political party would emerge as a third alternative and vowed to put an end to the family-run parties that have dominated governance so far. He remarked that the existing parties come to power with a singular agenda and loot the state exchequer in various ways. He stated that his party would work with development as its primary goal and ensure the delivery of welfare to the people through a coordinated approach. He mentioned that he would act as an advisor, similar to the role played by Thackeray in Maharashtra state. He added that his party would focus on reducing state expenditure and increasing revenue, thus ensuing surplus revenue. Speaking about the state capital amaravati, he recalled that he had supported the Sivaramakrishnan Committee recommendations in the past; he noted that works worth over ₹70,000 crore are currently underway in Amaravati and asserted that, regardless of what anyone says, Amaravati remains the state’s only capital—a fact that cannot be altered. He urged the government to develop Amaravati by encouraging private companies rather than relying on public funds.
I will not be the CM candidate:
He clarified that neither he nor any member of his family would be the Chief Ministerial candidate for the new party he is launching. He stated that the opportunity to become Chief Minister would be extended to any capable, experienced, and patriotic individual from communities that have hitherto remained away from power—specifically Kapus, Velamas, BCs, SCs, STs, and minorities. At a packed press conference, he unveiled the operational guidelines and five manifesto items of his new political party. He announced that the remaining 15 points of the manifesto would be revealed in three subsequent press conferences to be held at Visakhapatnam, Tirupati, and Anantapur; Then the name and flag of the new party would be officially announced after Vijayadashami in party conclave.
The first five points of the manifesto:
1. 66% of seats primarily for the youth:
He announced that high priority would be given to youth joining the new party, with 66% of seats in Assembly, Parliament, and local body elections allocated to young men and women aged between 25 and 40. The remaining 34% of seats would be allocated to seniors and advisors. However, he emphasized that the youth must possess patriotism.
2. Free electricity for farmers and every household:
He stated that the state would be transformed into a ‘Solar Power Hub’ to provide free electricity for agricultural and domestic needs without imposing a financial burden on the government exchequer. He also promised to put an end to corruption in financial dealings between power utility companies and the government.
3. Petrol price, Measures to keep prices below ₹100:
It was stated that GST on petroleum products would be reduced to ensure the price of petrol does not exceed ₹100 per liter; this move is expected to lower transportation costs and, consequently, the prices of essential commodities.
4. Water storage of thousands of TMCs:
Plans were announced to triple the state’s water storage capacity from current levels to 3,000 TMC. Floodwaters that currently drain into the sea would be captured in reservoirs (totaling 5,500 TMC capacity) to eliminate shortages of water for irrigation and drinking purposes.
5. CBI inquiry into APPSC and DSC exam controversies:
A demand was made for a CBI inquiry into allegations surrounding APPSC and DSC recruitments. A policy to provide a ‘graduate credit allowance’ to the unemployed was proposed. Commitments were made to train youth with industry-relevant skills—replacing outdated courses with vocational training that meets industry needs—to facilitate employment. Additionally, it was stated that teachers would be relieved of extraneous pressures and their duties limited strictly to teaching; teaching staff would be recruited through a special AP Teaching Services examination.
Padayatra across 660 mandals:
An announcement was made regarding a *padayatra* (foot march) across 660 mandals in the state to meet the public and personally understand the issues faced by the families.
Merely a Political Rival: In response to a question, Vijayasai Reddy clarified that YS Jagan is merely a political rival, not an enemy. It was stated that the reasons for leaving the YSRCP would soon be revealed through a letter, and a warning was issued that if anyone issued a challenge, internal matters—supported by evidence—would be disclosed in a second letter.
