12th National Handloom Day – 2026 Celebration at National Institute of Design (NID), Andhra Pradesh
The Weavers’ Service Centre (WSC), Vijayawada, under the Office of the Development Commissioner for Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, is organizing a special programme to celebrate the 12th National Handloom Day–2026 at the National Institute of Design (NID), Andhra Pradesh, on 05th August 2026 at 4:00 PM.
National Handloom Day is observed every year on 7th August to commemorate the historic Swadeshi Movement of 1905 and to recognize the invaluable contribution of India’s handloom weavers in preserving the country’s rich textile heritage. The celebration aims to create awareness about authentic handloom products, encourage the younger generation to appreciate traditional weaving traditions, and promote the use of handloom textiles.
The programme at NID, Andhra Pradesh, will feature an Exhibition of Handloom Products, Live Weaving Demonstrations, Handloom Quiz Competition, Design Competition, and an attractive Handloom Fashion Show/Saree Draping Competition by NID students. These activities will showcase the beauty, craftsmanship, innovation, and sustainability of Indian handloom textiles while fostering interaction between designers, artisans, students, and the handloom community.
The Director, National Institute of Design, Andhra Pradesh, has been invited to grace the occasion as the Chief Guest. The event is expected to witness the participation of more than 300 students, faculty members, officers, staff, handloom weavers, officials of the Ministry of Textiles, representatives of handloom organizations, and other distinguished guests.
The Weavers’ Service Centre, Vijayawada, cordially invites representatives of the print, electronic, and digital media to cover the programme and help spread the message of preserving, promoting, and supporting India’s rich handloom heritage.

భారత ప్రభుత్వ జౌళి మంత్రిత్వ శాఖ, డెవలప్మెంట్ కమిషనర్ (చేనేత) కార్యాలయం పరిధిలోని చేనేత సేవా కేంద్రం (WSC), విజయవాడ ఆధ్వర్యంలో 12వ జాతీయ చేనేత దినోత్సవం–2026 సందర్భాన్ని పురస్కరించుకుని అమరావతిలోని నేషనల్ ఇన్స్టిట్యూట్ ఆఫ్ డిజైన్ (NID), ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్లో 05 ఆగస్టు 2026 న సాయంత్రం 04:00 గంటలకు ఒక ప్రత్యేక కార్యక్రమం నిర్వహించబడుతోంది.
1905 నాటి చారిత్రాత్మక స్వదేశీ ఉద్యమాన్ని స్మరించుకోవడానికి మరియు దేశ సాంస్కృతిక జౌళి వారసత్వాన్ని పరిరక్షించడంలో భారతీయ చేనేత నేతకారుల అమూల్యమైన రంగాన్ని గుర్తించడానికి ప్రతి సంవత్సరం ఆగస్టు 7న జాతీయ చేనేత దినోత్సవాన్ని జరుపుకుంటారు. అసలైన చేనేత ఉత్పత్తులపై అవగాహన పెంచడం, సాంప్రదాయ నేత రీతులను అభినందించేలా యువతను ప్రోత్సహించడం మరియు చేనేత వస్త్రాల వినియోగాన్ని పెంపొందించడం ఈ వేడుకల ముఖ్య ఉద్దేశం.
NID, ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్లో జరిగే ఈ కార్యక్రమంలో చేనేత ఉత్పత్తుల ప్రదర్శన, ప్రత్యక్ష నేత ప్రదర్శనలు, చేనేత క్విజ్ పోటీలు, డిజైన్ పోటీలు మరియు NID విద్యార్థులచే ఆకర్షణీయమైన చేనేత ఫ్యాషన్ షో / చీర కట్టుకునే పోటీలు నిర్వహించబడతాయి. ఈ కార్యకలాపాలు భారతీయ చేనేత రంగానికి చెందిన సౌందర్యాన్ని, నైపుణ్యాన్ని, ఆవిష్కరణలను మరియు సుస్థిరతను ప్రతిబింబించడంతో పాటు డిజైనర్లు, చేతివృత్తుల కళాకారులు, విద్యార్థులు మరియు చేనేత రంగానికి చెందిన ప్రజల మధ్య అనుసంధానాన్ని పెంచుతాయి.
