With Cyclone Montha approaching the Andhra Pradesh coast, RTGS Minister Nara Lokesh on Monday directed public representatives in vulnerable constituencies to remain in the field and respond immediately to emerging situations. He said the impact is expected to be high in parts of coastal Andhra and stressed that “every minute on the ground will matter.”
During the review Minister Lokesh said that, according to current information, the cyclone is likely to cross near Kakinada, and instructed MLAs, officials and local bodies to jointly monitor the situation and ensure no hardship to citizens. He also said that cadres of alliance parties may actively support relief measures, wherever required.
The Minister ordered the setup of pre-emptive relief camps in coastal and Lanka villages, with adequate food, drinking water and basic facilities for evacuees. He also issued clear department-wise directions to maintain full preparedness:
1. Medical & Health teams to prevent seasonal and water-borne diseases
2. Ambulances and medicines to be kept ready for emergency response
3. Electricity department to ensure minimal disruption in power supply
4. Telecom operators to maintain uninterrupted communication networks
5. Sandbags, pumps and machinery to protect bunds and drain floodwater, especially from agricultural fields
He also urged administrators and field-level teams to stay alert, respond quickly and coordinate closely with the RTGS control room, which is monitoring developments round-the-clock. He appealed to citizens to remain indoors, stay vigilant and follow government advisories only.
“The government machinery is on 24×7 standby and will respond immediately to any requirement in cyclone-affected areas,” the RTGS Minister said, calling for complete preparedness and calm public cooperation until the cyclone impact passes.
