RTC Buses: A Deadly Menace at Zebra Crossings!
Road safety is not merely a slogan, it is a fundamental responsibility concerning everyone’s life all over india . However, observing the driving style of Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) buses, it appears that creating an atmosphere of terror on the roads has become a higher priority than safely transporting passengers to their destinations. Giving pedestrians the right of way at zebra crossings is a basic traffic rule. Vehicles should either slow down or come to a complete halt. Yet, it seems our RTC drivers treat zebra crossings like race tracks. Accelerating just before the signal changes and using horns to terrify pedestrians—even when they are clearly visible—has become a routine occurrence. The combination of today’s youth (Gen Z) being engrossed in their mobile phones and this reckless driving is turning our roads into death traps. Is it justifiable to gamble with the lives of innocent pedestrians merely to maintain schedules or meet service targets? If a public transport corporation—which ought to set an example for private motorists—behaves so irresponsibly, where can the common citizen find safety?
Immediate measures required by APSRTC
Rigorous Training and Awareness: Special training sessions regarding pedestrian rights and zebra crossing regulations must be conducted for every RTC driver.
Enforcement of Traffic Rules: Traffic police should impose heavy fines on buses that cross zebra crossings negligently, and the RTC must initiate internal disciplinary action against the drivers involved.
Use of Technology: Speed guns in buses must be monitored more effectively, and CCTV data from intersections should be integrated with RTC management systems to identify buses that violate regulations.
Implementation of ‘Stop’ Signs: ‘Stop’ signs should be installed at every zebra crossings for both pedestrians and RTC buses. A mandatory rule requiring a 10-second halt at these signs must be enforced. Else they should be tracked and fined heavily.
Revenue may be important for the transport corporation, but it is certainly not more valuable than human lives. It is time for the APSRTC management and senior officials to step in and put an end to this deadly menace on the roads. True progress is achieved only when not just the journey itself, but also the act of crossing the road, becomes equally safe.

జీబ్రా క్రాసింగ్ల వద్ద పాదచారులకు ప్రాధాన్యత ఇవ్వడం ఒక ప్రాథమిక ట్రాఫిక్ నియమం. వాహనాలు వేగాన్ని తగ్గించాలి లేదా పూర్తిగా ఆగిపోవాలి. అయినప్పటికీ, మన ఆర్టీసీ డ్రైవర్లు జీబ్రా క్రాసింగ్లను రేస్ ట్రాక్ల వలె భావిస్తున్నట్లు అనిపిస్తోంది. సిగ్నల్ మారడానికి కొద్ది క్షణాల ముందు వేగాన్ని పెంచడం, పాదచారులు స్పష్టంగా కనిపిస్తున్నప్పటికీ వారిని భయపెట్టడానికి హారన్లు మోగించడం సర్వసాధారణమైపోయింది. నేటి యువత (జెన్ జెడ్) తమ మొబైల్ ఫోన్లలో మునిగిపోవడం ,ఈ నిర్లక్ష్యపు డ్రైవింగ్ కలయిక మన రోడ్లను మృత్యుపాశాలుగా మారుస్తోంది. కేవలం షెడ్యూళ్లను పాటించడానికో లేదా సేవా లక్ష్యాలను చేరుకోవడానికో అమాయక పాదచారుల ప్రాణాలతో జూదం ఆడటం సమర్థనీయమేనా? ప్రైవేట్ వాహనదారులకు ఆదర్శంగా నిలవాల్సిన ఒక ప్రజా రవాణా సంస్థ ఇంత బాధ్యతారహితంగా ప్రవర్తిస్తే, సామాన్య పౌరుడు భద్రతను ఎక్కడ పొందగలడు?
ఏపీఎస్ఆర్టీసీ తీసుకోవాల్సిన తక్షణ చర్యలు
కఠినమైన శిక్షణ ,అవగాహన: ప్రతి ఆర్టీసీ డ్రైవర్కు పాదచారుల హక్కులు ,జీబ్రా క్రాసింగ్ నిబంధనలపై ప్రత్యేక శిక్షణా తరగతులు నిర్వహించాలి.
ట్రాఫిక్ నిబంధనల అమలు: నిర్లక్ష్యంగా జీబ్రా క్రాసింగ్లను దాటే బస్సులపై ట్రాఫిక్ పోలీసులు భారీ జరిమానాలు విధించాలి ,ఇందులో పాలుపడిన డ్రైవర్లపై ఆర్టీసీ అంతర్గత క్రమశిక్షణా చర్యలు ప్రారంభించాలి.
సాంకేతిక పరిజ్ఞాన వినియోగం: బస్సులలోని స్పీడ్ గన్లను మరింత సమర్థవంతంగా పర్యవేక్షించాలి ,నిబంధనలను ఉల్లంఘించే బస్సులను గుర్తించడానికి కూడళ్ల నుండి సీసీటీవీ డేటాను ఆర్టీసీ నిర్వహణ వ్యవస్థలతో అనుసంధానించాలి.
‘స్టాప్ సైన్ ‘ సంకేతాల అమలు: పాదచారులు ,ఆర్టీసీ బస్సుల కోసం ప్రతి జీబ్రా క్రాసింగ్ వద్ద ‘ఆగండి’ సంకేతాలను ఏర్పాటు చేయాలి. ఈ సంకేతాల వద్ద 10 సెకన్ల పాటు ఆగాలనే నియమాన్ని తప్పనిసరిగా అమలు చేయాలి. అలా చేయని పక్షంలో, వారిని గుర్తించి భారీగా జరిమానా విధించాలి.
రవాణా సంస్థకు ఆదాయం ముఖ్యమే కావచ్చు, కానీ అది మానవ ప్రాణాల కంటే విలువైనది ఎంతమాత్రం కాదు. రోడ్లపై నెలకొన్న ఈ ప్రాణాంతక ముప్పును అరికట్టేందుకు APSRTC యాజమాన్యం ,ఉన్నతాధికారులు తక్షణమే జోక్యం చేసుకోవాల్సిన సమయం ఆసన్నమైంది. కేవలం ప్రయాణం మాత్రమే కాకుండా, రోడ్డు దాటడం కూడా అంతే సురక్షితంగా ఉన్నప్పుడే నిజమైన పురోగతి సాధ్యమవుతుంది.
