Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Shri N. Chandrababu Naidu, has been conferred the prestigious “Business Reformer of the Year” award by The Economic Times, India’s leading business publication, in recognition of his far-reaching economic reforms, investor-friendly governance, and transformational leadership.

The award was decided by a highly distinguished jury comprising some of India’s most eminent business leaders, including Shri Sunil Bharti Mittal, Founder and Chairman of Bharti Enterprises; Shri Sajjan Jindal, Chairman and Managing Director of JSW Group; and Shri Noel Tata, Chairman of Tata Trusts. The jury cited Shri Naidu’s exemplary record in rebuilding investor confidence, institutional reform, and creating a new template for growth-oriented governance.

In an extensive profile of Mr. Naidu, the publication highlighted Shri Naidu’s decisive return to reform-led governance after the 2024 elections and noted that Andhra Pradesh has attracted investments worth ₹10.7 lakh crore in just 18 months. The publication underlined that these are not mere expressions of interest but projects that have been approved by the Cabinet and are at various stages of implementation across sectors.

The publication described Shri Naidu as one of India’s foremost economic reformers and an early champion of information technology, widely credited with establishing Hyderabad as a global technology hub. The publication further highlighted Shri Naidu’s emphasis on evidence-based policymaking, including the use of white papers on the state of the economy, law and order, and legacy policy challenges to identify areas requiring urgent intervention. This, the jury noted, led to the formulation of sector-specific policies that provide clarity and confidence to investors and have significantly enhanced the “speed of doing business”, now seen as Andhra Pradesh’s defining competitive advantage.

Several landmark initiatives were cited, including the introduction of escrow mechanisms to ensure timely payment of incentives, decisive measures to cut red tape, and proactive governance to position Andhra Pradesh as a preferred investment destination. Riding on these reforms, the state has attracted marquee investments, including Google’s largest global FDI commitment of $15 billion over five years to develop a data centre cluster in Visakhapatnam, a $11 billion investment by Digital Connexion in partnership with Brookfield, Reliance Industries and Digital Realty, and plans by AM/NS India to set up the country’s largest greenfield steel plant in Anakapalli district.

The publication also observed that the surge in investments has strengthened the state’s fiscal position, enabling the government to sustain and cross-subsidise key welfare initiatives. These include targeted financial assistance for underprivileged women to support their children’s education, aid for farmers, and essential household support such as the supply of LPG cylinders to eligible families.
