Speaker’s Emotional Address on the Restoration of Amaravati as the Soul of Andhra Pradesh.
“Amaravati is not just a city, it is a Sacred Yagna for the Progress of 5.5 Crore People” – Hon’ble Speaker
AMARAVATI: During the 6th session of the 16th Legislative Assembly, the Hon’ble Speaker delivered a historic and poignant address, departing from traditional neutrality to voice his “deep anguish and aspirations as a common Telugu man.” Welcoming the members to the session, the Speaker described the day’s proceedings as a “Sacred Yagna” aimed at removing permanent hurdles to the state’s progress.
Key Highlights of the Address:
-
A Vision Restored: The Speaker lauded the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Sri Nara Chandrababu Naidu, recalling the 2014 mandate to guide a “rudderless boat” toward safety. He emphasized that the democratic selection of Amaravati as the capital was a cornerstone of that vision.
-
The Sacrifice of Farmers: Paying rich tributes to the “Annadatas” (farmers) of the region, the Speaker highlighted their voluntary land contribution as an unparalleled act of patriotism. He lamented the “dark period” between 2019 and 2024, where these farmers faced state-sponsored oppression and humiliation.
-
The ‘50-Year Setback’: In a stinging critique of the previous administration’s policies, the Speaker stated that the “regressive governance” of the last five years pushed the state back by at least 50 years. He remarked that governance is a continuous process, and the destruction of constructive projects for personal whims was an “act of state sabotage.”
-
Central Government’s Support: The Speaker informed the House that following the persistent efforts of CM Sri Chandrababu Naidu, the Central Government has given in-principle approval for necessary amendments to the State Reorganisation Act, paving the way for the permanent establishment of Amaravati.
-
Call for Accountability: Expressing disappointment over the absence of the 11 opposition members, the Speaker noted that they missed a golden opportunity for “atonement” (Prayaschitta). He urged all present members to participate constructively to ensure the state’s future is built on a foundation of “Wealth, Health, and Happiness.”
Closing Statement: The Speaker concluded by stating that this session would be etched in history as the moment the Telugu people declared with one voice that their progress is unstoppable.
