In politics, the struggle usually takes place between parties. Ideologies clash, Agendas compete, but for over three decades, a strange situation has persisted in the Telugu speaking states’ politics. Here, the competition is not with a party, but with a single individual… and that individual is none other than Nara Chandrababu Naidu. Chandrababu is not just a Chief Minister. He is not just a party president. He is the central figure of a political era. That’s why the misconception that attacking him will yield political gains has taken deep root in all political parties. Whether it’s the Congress, the BJP, the YSRCP, or the BRS, one name revolves around all their strategies in Chandrababu. This is not a coincidence. From the time he assumed office as the Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh in 1995, Chandrababu changed the direction of state politics. He put an end to old administrative practices and brought technology, development, and a global vision into politics. From then on, the feeling arose that he himself was the opponent, not who his opponent was. Chandrababu played a pivotal role in the formation of non-Congress governments at the center between 1996 and 1999.
It was impossible to ignore him. Even after losing power in 2004, his political importance did not diminish. Even when the Congress was in power at the center and in the state, their political target was Chandrababu. To defeat him, the Congress, Majlis, Left parties, and TRS formed an alliance. Such a political mobilization was needed to confront one individual. This demonstrates Chandrababu’s stature.
In 2014, Chandrababu, who came to power in alliance with the BJP, provided direction to thebifurcated state of Andhra Pradesh. He made the an effort to work with the central government. Although there were criticisms that help was not extended at that time by the then ruling BJP party, he himself was at the center of those criticisms as well.
After coming out of the NDA in 2018, the BJP-YCP political understanding became clearly visible. The defeat in 2019 was not a personal defeat. It was the result of political equations. However, the dissatisfaction among the people regarding the governance between 2019 and 2024 revealed the political reality. Corruption, atrocities, and administrative failures were clearly visible to the people of AP. At the same time, the defeat of TRS in Telangana and the weakening of BJP’s strength at the center indicated changing dynamics in national politics.
He played a significant role. He gained recognition as a state leader who influenced national politics. That is why these circumstances indicated the direction of the wind at the center as well. In these circumstances, Chandrababu became necessary for the BJP. That is political logic. National politics clearly proved the fact that a third term in government at the center is not possible without Chandrababu’s support. This made one thing clear, Chandrababu has not become politically irrelevant. He is still the central figure. Regardless of who is in power in the state, the political discussion revolves around Chandrababu. If he is in power, the goal is to obstruct him. 2014లో బీజేపీతో పొత్తు పెట్టుకుని అధికారంలోకి వచ్చిన చంద్రబాబు, విభజిత ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్ రాష్ట్రానికి దిశానిర్దేశం చేశారు. కేంద్ర ప్రభుత్వంతో కలిసి పనిచేయడానికి ఆయన ప్రయత్నం చేశారు. ఆ సమయంలో అప్పటి అధికార బీజేపీ పార్టీ సహాయం అందించలేదనే విమర్శలు ఉన్నప్పటికీ, ఆ విమర్శల కేంద్ర బిందువుగా ఆయనే నిలిచారు.
2018లో ఎన్డీఏ నుండి బయటకు వచ్చిన తర్వాత, బీజేపీ-వైసీపీ రాజకీయ అవగాహన స్పష్టంగా కనిపించింది. 2019లో వచ్చిన ఓటమి వ్యక్తిగత ఓటమి కాదు. అది రాజకీయ సమీకరణల ఫలితం. అయితే, 2019 నుండి 2024 మధ్య కాలంలో పాలనపై ప్రజల్లో నెలకొన్న అసంతృప్తి రాజకీయ వాస్తవికతను వెల్లడించింది. అవినీతి, అరాచకాలు, పరిపాలనా వైఫల్యాలు ఏపీ ప్రజలకు స్పష్టంగా కనిపించాయి. అదే సమయంలో, తెలంగాణలో టీఆర్ఎస్ ఓటమి, కేంద్రంలో బీజేపీ బలం బలహీనపడటం జాతీయ రాజకీయాల్లో మారుతున్న సమీకరణలను సూచించాయి.
ఆయన ఒక కీలక పాత్ర పోషించారు. జాతీయ రాజకీయాలను ప్రభావితం చేసే రాష్ట్ర నాయకుడిగా గుర్తింపు పొందారు. అందుకే ఈ పరిస్థితులు కేంద్రంలో కూడా గాలి ఏ దిశగా వీస్తోందో సూచించాయి. ఈ పరిస్థితులలో చంద్రబాబు బీజేపీకి అవసరమయ్యారు. అదే రాజకీయ తర్కం. చంద్రబాబు మద్దతు లేకుండా కేంద్రంలో మూడవసారి ప్రభుత్వం ఏర్పాటు చేయడం సాధ్యం కాదనే వాస్తవాన్ని జాతీయ రాజకీయాలు స్పష్టంగా నిరూపించాయి. ఇది ఒక విషయాన్ని స్పష్టం చేసింది, చంద్రబాబు రాజకీయంగా అప్రస్తుతం కాలేదు. ఆయన ఇప్పటికీ కేంద్ర బిందువుగానే ఉన్నారు. రాష్ట్రంలో ఎవరు అధికారంలో ఉన్నా, రాజకీయ చర్చ చంద్రబాబు చుట్టూనే తిరుగుతుంది. ఆయన అధికారంలో ఉంటే, ఆయన్ను అడ్డుకోవడమే లక్ష్యం. ఆయన ప్రతిపక్షంలో ఉంటే, ఆయన గొంతును అణచివేయడమే వ్యూహం. అది కేసీఆర్ అయినా, జగన్ అయినా, మోడీ అయినా, అమిత్ షా అయినా,
వారి రాజకీయ లెక్కల్లో చంద్రబాబు పేరు లేకుండా కథ అసంపూర్ణంగా ఉంటుంది. ఆయనపై విమర్శలు లేకుండా పత్రికా సమావేశాలు వెలవెలబోతాయి. ప్రసంగాలు అసంపూర్ణంగా అనిపిస్తాయి. ఇదే రాజకీయ వాస్తవికత. వయసు మీద పడుతున్నా, ఆయన సంకల్పం తగ్గలేదు. ఆయనపై కేసులు పెట్టినా, వ్యక్తిగత దాడులు చేసినా, రాజకీయ కక్షతో వేధించినా, చంద్రబాబు నిలకడ ఒక రాజకీయ మేరు పర్వతం లాంటిది. ఎన్ని దాడులు చేసినా, ఎన్నిసార్లు ఆయన్ను ఒంటరిని చేయడానికి ప్రయత్నించినా, ప్రజలు ఆయనకు మరింతగా మద్దతు పలికారు. మరింత దగ్గరయ్యారు. అందుకే “టార్గెట్ చంద్రబాబు” ఒక నినాదంగా మారింది. ఒక వ్యూహంగా మారింది. కానీ ఆ వ్యూహాలన్నింటినీ తట్టుకుని నిలబడిన నాయకుడు నారా చంద్రబాబు నాయుడు.
