సామాజిక కార్యకర్త డోన్ పి. మహమ్మద్ రఫి ఆధ్వర్యంలో నలంద హై స్కూల్ అధినేత హరిశంకర్ అధ్యక్షతన శ్రీ మోక్షగుండం విశ్వేశ్వరయ్య గారి వర్థంతి సందర్భంగా వారి చిత్ర పటానికి పూలమాల వేసి ఘణంగా నివాళి అర్పించారు. వారిని స్మరించుకున్నారు.

శ్రీ విశ్వేశ్వరయ్య గారు 1860 సెప్టెంబరు 15 న కర్ణాటకలోని చిక్బళ్లాపుర్ తాలూకాలో ఉన్న ముద్దెనహళ్ళి గ్రామంలో మోక్షగుండం శ్రీనివాస శాస్త్రి, వెంకటలక్ష్మమ్మ దంపతులకు జన్మించారు. 1881లో మద్రాసు విశ్వవిద్యాలయం నుంచి బిఏ పూర్తి చేసిన విశ్వేశ్వరయ్య తర్వాత పుణే సైన్సు కాలేజీలో సివిల్ ఇంజనీరింగ్ చదివారు. చదువు పూర్తయ్యాక గవర్నమెంట్ ఆఫ్ బాంబే ప్రజా పనుల శాఖలో అసిస్టెంట్ ఇంజనీర్గా నియమితులయ్యారు.తర్వాత దక్కన్ ప్రాంతంలో నీటిపారుదల వ్యవస్థను రూపొందించారు. ఈయన రూపకల్పన చేసిన ఆటోమాటిక్ వరద గేట్ల వ్యవస్థను 1903లో మొదటిసారిగా పుణే సమీపంలోని ఖడక్ వాస్లా వద్ద నెలకొల్పారు. వరదల సమయంలో ఆనకట్ట భద్రతను దృష్టిలో ఉంచుకుంటూనే అత్యధిక నీటిని నిల్వచేయడానికి ఈ వ్యవస్థ ఎంతగానో దోహదపడింది. విశ్వేశ్వరయ్య పనితీరును గుర్తించిన బ్రిటిష్ పాలకులు సింధు రాష్ట్రంలోని ప్రముఖ సుక్నూర్బరాజ్ జలాశయ నిర్మాణానికి ఇంజనీర్గా నియమించారు. నాలుగేళ్లలో సింధు నది నీరు సుద్నోరుకు చేరేలా చేశాడు. మైసూర్ సమీపంలో నిర్మించిన కృష్ణరాజ సాగర్ ఆనకట్టకు ఆయనే చీఫ్ ఇంజనీర్గా వ్యవహరించారు. 1908లో మూసి నదికి వరదలు వచ్చాయి. దీంతో హైదరాబాద్ నగరాన్ని వరద ముప్పు నుంచి రక్షించేందుకు అప్పటి నిజాం నవాబు విశ్వేశ్వరయ్యను ఆహ్వానించి వరద సమస్యకు పరిష్కారం సూచించాలని కోరారు.
నిజాం విన్నపం మేరకు హైదరాబాద్కు పటిష్టమైన మురుగునీటి పారుదల వ్యవస్థను ఆయన రూపొందించారు. మూసీ, ఈసీ నదులపై రిజర్వాయర్లను నిర్మించేలా ప్రణాళికలు రూపొందించి, హైదరాబాద్ నగరానికి వరద ముప్పు తప్పించారు. 1908లో స్వచ్ఛంద పదవీ విరమణ చేసిన ఆయన మైసూర్ సంస్థానంలో దివానుగా పని చేశారు. భద్రావతి ఉక్కు కర్మాగారాన్ని లాభాల బాట పట్టించారు. ఆయన కృషిని గుర్తించిన బ్రిటిష్ ప్రభుత్వం సర్ బిరుదుతో సత్కరించింది. 1955లో భారతదేశ అత్యున్నత పౌర పురస్కారమైన ‘భారతరత్న’ విశ్వేశ్వరయ్యను వరించింది. సివిల్ ఇంజనీరింగ్లో నూతన ఒరవడి సృష్టించిన మోక్షగుండం విశ్వేశ్వరయ్యను స్మరించుకోవడం కోసం ఆయన జయంతి సెప్టెంబర్15 ను జాతీయ ఇంజనీర్స్ డే గా జరుపుకొంటున్నాం. ఈలాంటి మహనీయులను అనుక్షణం స్మరించుకుంటూ వారి అడుగుజాడల్లో నడవాలని సామాజిక కార్యకర్త డోన్ పి.మహమ్మద్ రఫి , నలంద హైస్కూల్ అధినేత ఎస్. హరిశంకర్ కోరారు. అలాగే సామాజిక కార్యకర్త డోన్ పి. మహమ్మద్ రఫి విద్యార్థులకు ఆరోగ్యం పై అవగాహణ కలిపించారు. ఆరోగ్యం పై జాగ్రత్తగా ఉండాలని, చేతులు శుభ్రంగా కడుక్కోవాలని ,తుమ్మినప్పుడు దగ్గినప్పుడు ముక్కు,నోటికి చేతిరుమాలు అడ్డం పెట్టుకోవాలని ,నీళ్ళు శరీరాని తగ్గట్టుగా త్రాగాలని, ముఖ్యంగా పిల్లలు జంక్ ఫుడ్ తినరాదని, తగిన సమయం నిద్రపోవాలని, బహిరంగ ప్రదేశాలలో ఉమ్మి వేయకూడదని, జ్వరం వచ్చిందంటే ప్రభుత్వ వైద్యశాలలో వైద్యనిపుణులను సంప్రదించి చికిత్స చేయించుకోవాలని తెలిపారు.

Sri Visvesvaraya Garu was born on September 15, 1860 to Mokshagundam Srinivasa Shastri and Venkatalakshmamma at Muddenahalli village in Chikballapur taluka, Karnataka. After completing BA from Madras University in 1881, Visvesvaraya studied Civil Engineering at Pune Science College. After completing his studies, he was appointed as an Assistant Engineer in the Public Works Department of the Government of Bombay. Later he designed an irrigation system in the Deccan region. A system of automatic flood gates designed by him was installed for the first time in 1903 at Khadak Vasla near Pune. This system is very helpful in storing maximum water while keeping in mind the safety of the dam during floods. Recognizing Visvesvaraya’s performance, the British rulers appointed him as an engineer for the construction of the famous Suknoorbaraj reservoir in the Indus state. In four years he made the water of the river Indus reach Sudnor. He was the Chief Engineer of the Krishnaraja Sagar Dam built near Mysore. In 1908 the Musi river was flooded. With this, the then Nizam Nawab Visvesvaraya was invited to protect the city of Hyderabad from the flood threat and asked him to suggest a solution to the flood problem.
As requested by the Nizam, he designed a strong sewage system for Hyderabad. Plans were made to build reservoirs on the Musi and EC rivers and the threat of flooding to the city of Hyderabad was averted. He took voluntary retirement in 1908 and worked as Diwan in Mysore. Bhadravati steel plant was made profitable. Recognizing his efforts, the British government honored him with the title of Sir. In 1955, India’s highest civilian award ‘Bharat Ratna’ was awarded to Visvesvaraya. To commemorate Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, who created a new trend in civil engineering, we are celebrating his birth anniversary on September 15 as National Engineers Day. Social activist Don P. Mohammad Rafi, head of Nalanda High School, S. Harishankar asked. Also social activist Don P. Mohammed Rafi made students aware of health. He said that they should be careful about their health, wash their hands cleanly, cover their nose and mouth with a handkerchief when sneezing and coughing, drink water according to their body, especially children should not eat junk food, should sleep at an adequate time, should not spit in public places, and should consult medical experts at the government hospital for treatment if fever occurs.
