He warned that those who lure innocent people and youth into cricket betting with false promises of making easy money will not be spared. He emphasized that such individuals will be brought before the law and punished severely.
To curb online and offline betting during the IPL season, the police department has set up special surveillance teams to monitor bookies and betting activities. The DGP stated that the police have comprehensive information on individuals involved in cricket betting. He urged people to watch cricket purely for entertainment and not get drawn into betting.
He cautioned against taking loans for betting, as it could lead to family devastation. Noting that youth and students are increasingly getting attracted to online betting apps, he advised parents to keep a close watch on their children.
The DGP urged young people to remain alert and not fall into the traps set by betting syndicates. He reiterated that severe legal action will be taken against those involved in cricket betting, whether directly or indirectly. Individuals engaging in such illegal activities will be treated as organized criminals and prosecuted accordingly.
The police department also appealed to the public to report any information about betting activities. Victims of betting scams were encouraged to come forward, as cases will be registered, and strict action will be taken against the offenders.
