Vijayawada: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday gave the nod for the construction of roads in Amaravati Zone 7 and 10 with ₹2,723 crore, at the 44th CRDA (Capital Region Development Authority) meeting held at the state secretariat. Among the several key decisions, Naidu also okayed ₹102 crore to complete the pending houses to be built by the Andhra Pradesh Township And Infrastructure Development Corporation (APTIDCO), setting June 12 as deadline for the completion of constructions.
The Chief Minister also said to date, the government approved projects worth a staggering ₹47,288 crore for CRDA in Amaravati, highlighting the government’s ongoing commitment to bolstering infrastructure and housing in the state capital. He stated that this latest approval is expected to further accelerate the development pace of Amaravati, positioning it as a core hub for growth in the region. Giving details of decisions made at the CRDA meeting, municipal administration and urban development minister P. Narayana said that 1.18 lakh houses will be completed adding that APTIDCO had remained as non-performing asset due to delays. He said, “These houses, which had been sanctioned between 2014 and 2019 by the Centre, were delayed due to various issues. During this period, a total of 7,01,481 houses were approved of which permissions for 5 lakh houses were granted and 4,54,706 houses were grounded. By 2019, the construction of 3,13,832 houses had begun.”
The minister assured that no financial burden would be placed on the public for the development of Amaravati. The funds for these projects would be repaid through the sale of land acquired via pooling from farmers and no loans would be diverted to cover development costs. “Amaravati development works will be completed in three years,” he said. Narayana also highlighted that the state government had taken a planned approach to ensure balanced development across all 26 districts of Andhra Pradesh. He mentioned the allocation of several Central institutions to districts, such as the Tribal University for Vizianagaram, IIM for Visakhapatnam, and IIT for Tirupati. The government is also focusing on establishing industrial hubs like the drone hub in Kurnool and manufacturing units in Rayalaseema. The minister also stated that the government is working on the development of ports and satellite cities through land pooling, similar to the Amaravati model, in various locations. In Visakhapatnam, they are working to bring back major companies such as TCS and Google, and in Kurnool, a drone hub is being set up on 350 acres.
